Description: The Cursillo in Christianity is a movement in the Church which stresses the dynamic "communitarian" aspects of the Christian faith. After a three-day period of spiritual renewal, a Cursillo weekend (in Spanish, "Cursillo de Christiandad" which translates to "Little Course in Christianity") brings together a group of about forty men and women of different races, ancestry, education, economic, and social status for spiritual exercises conducted by a team of priests and lay ministers. The exercises are centered on Christ and the Eucharist. The weekend includes a series of talks on Christian doctrine and on practical applications of the doctrine with an opportunity for individual participation. The Cursillo Movement has a spirit of renewal. Those who have experienced the Cursillo Weekend are invited to participate in the follow-up program which consists of small group sharing sessions (Group Reunion) and a larger gathering called Ultreya (a Spanish term of encouragement to persevere). It could be said that a Cursillo is a kind of retreat, but it is better to think of it as a means for studying and focusing on the problems which confront the men and women of today, so as to find a true Christian solution to those problems.
