NARRATVIE TECHNIQUES: STORY
TELLING
- Make sure that your character (yourself) possesses traits
and behaves in ways which your audience approves of or
admires. (Sympathetic character)
- Be careful how you write your events
When writers convert a series of real events into a novel or
other form of narrative they often use some of the following
techniques to make a story more interesting or easier to follow
or to highlight certain themes:
- omitting events
- compressing time
- starting and ending with dramatic points
- relating some events in more detail than others
- combining a number of real people into a single character
- focusing only on the actions and reactions of a limited
number of people
- simplifying the personalities of real people so that the
characters become stereotypes
Which of the above techniques do you think, were used in the
texts we have studies this year?
