OUTCOMES BASED ASSESSMENT RUBRICS

The following rubrics are the result of my experimentation with assessing against the Outcomes of the English Learning Area in the Curriculum Framework currently operating in Western Australian schools. As many teachers might agree - it has not been easy adapting to this relatively new way of assessing. So many of us are too used to using numerical marks or grades.

My Rubrics

Updated April 3, 2000

Please note: You are free to use these rubrics for classroom use only and may not claim them as your own work.

The rubrics which follow enable teachers to assess against outcomes, give a numerical mark and a grade as well.

Please note: The number in the Outcomes Assessed column in each rubric refers to the corresponding Outcome in the English Learning Area of the Curriculum Framework. I have added a tenth outcome for my students which focuses heavily on student effort and submission of work, including the submission of drafts.

Briefly, for those not familiar with the Western Australian English Outcomes, the following is a summary of the focus of each outcome.
