My reply to Diana Warnock's letter to me.
Dear Ms. Warnock
Thank you very much for responding to my previous letter and would ask that you take the time out to read this letter too.
I was somewhat dismayed by some of what you said and I do not feel you took the opportunity to look up the Internet sites given to you. Surely, realistic representations of dismembered bodies, demonstrating signs of extreme pain, are not what you would consider merely a "common procedure" as you call it and something which needs to be "regulated."
Ms. Warnock, are you aware of how abortions are carried out? Have you read reports of the lasting guilt many women feel when they have had abortions? Have you also read reports of women, who have had "safe" abortions and end up dying as has occurred in places such as the States where abortion has been legalised? Ruptured uterus? Bleeding? Even death? Does any of this, and the confession of ex-abortionists not move you? They know they are murdering innocent children, who are fully formed, well before abortions are carried out.
You say, "my belief is that abortion is not for the Criminal Code". The problem with this is that you state a belief and yet condemn the belief that has existed for thousands of years, well before you were born; that life is precious and all must be done to safeguard and protect the defenceless and weak.
The important thing to realise is that your belief or my belief is irrelevant. The facts speak for themselves. Abortion kills a living, human who is weak, defenceless and deserving of our protection. Other ways can be found for women having a problem pregnancy. There are so many centres seeking to help them. What about adoption? This solution respects both the mother and the child.
Finally, I require proof that a "large majority of Australians believe it should be a private matter for the woman concerned." I keep hearing this but the same lies were told in America when it was legalised there. I have never been asked my opinion and over 200 people I have spoken to have not either. Where did you get your information from? I am an intelligent Western Australian, aware of media bias since I am a teacher. Do not let your own intelligence be mocked by believing the results of these so-called "objective" polls.
Please respond to this letter, which I am forwarding together with a copy of a petition signed by some of my students, who were finally given a truly objective account on the whole issue. You will note that in this "poll", with students who appear to be more informed than the general public who are never presented with all the facts, of the year 8, 9 and 12 classes surveyed, 58% were opposed to abortion. I my year 12 class, of 18 students, 70% were. This result is very different to your claim that 81% of Western Australians are pro-abortion.
Ms. Warnock, I support women undergoing necessary medications or even operations when they are pregnant in order to save their life. All those who respect life know this. We also know that this may lead to the death of the child in her womb. However, this is different to deliberately causing the death of the child, most of the time simply because the mother doesn't want her child and doesn't want to be pregnant or is forced by a dominant other. Please, Ms. Warnock, I beg you to think more deeply before you play your part in Parliament.
Kind regards
