Suffering Children: Offering their sufferings and prayers for those who reject them
An excerpt from a letter written by Fr Michael Gaughran
" During my travels around the English speaking world I have seen many examples of ..ultimate reparation. In Zimbabwe I visited a leper settlement in a remote desert place. Many lepers there were blind and had no fingers or toes. The people explained that because they had no sensation in their extremeties, the rats would come and eat them during the night. Their families did not want them near them. It was a recipe for despair. Instead, everyday they went to their little chapel with their rosaries around their wrists, to pray and offer their sufferings for the people outside who rejected them.
Libya is a country wrecked by civil wars, where homes and families are destroyed. Whilst there, I was taken to a little shrine in the bush, where a small group of youngsters was presented to me. Some seemed the age of Jacinta and Francesco and all needed sticks to walk, the consequences of landmines and war.
When I asked the children who they were, they replied "We are the Community of Reparation". I asked what they did and they answered, "We pray and we offer our sufferings for those who did this to us, so that they may go to Heaven."
