Inspirational Talks
Another central element of the retreat was the educational component, where truth was conveyed so simply and yet in a way that was new and refreshing. There were talks on a variety of topics including, the role and nature of the Church, Salvation, Reconciliation and God's Mercy, Mary, Vocations and Sexuality. We heard the call to holiness afresh, and learnt of the importance of prayer and the Sacraments which nourish our supernatural life. We learnt of the beauty of our Catholic Church - not only a Church gifted with all the means of Salvation, but one which teaches that through 'invincible ignorance' even those outside the Church, who follow the dictates of the moral law written on everyone's heart, may find Salvation, through God's Mercy. We were encouraged to see in the gift of sexuality, a dignity which we often forget but which is integral to our Vocation, whether as Priest, Religious, Married or single. And we asked ourselves who Mary is for us. She is the 'believer', who teaches us that faith is the 'unifying force' in our lives and who says, "Come to me and together we will walk towards Jesus'. We understood in a new way, that in trusting in God's will we are living in the manner of Mary, whose 'fiat' echoes the essence of her being. "Let it be done unto me according to your word".
