St. Bernadette - First Saint to be photographed

"The spring is not for me" (St. Bernadette to another sister when it was suggested that she go to the Grotto and reap the benefits of the miraculous spring which she herself had discovered guided by Our Lady. Bernadette knew that she was to participate in Christ's suffering in this life. Mary had promised not to make her happy in this world but in the next.

Relics of St. Bernadette and her home in Lourdes

These photos were taken just outside the Sanctuary at Lourdes and depict, from top left to right and bottom left to right - (1) St. Bernadette's home (2) One of the rooms of her abode (3) A mural in a museum depicting the events in her life and her relics - and a photo of her in-corrupt body which rests in a convent in Nevers (4) The veil worn by St. Bernadette in the photo at the top The experience was very moving.
