Interviewing an Elderly person

Task: To interview an elderly person about his/her life and opinions on certain issues.

Instructions: You are to tape the interview but are not required to provide a transcript. The written component will be a summary of the responses. The questions are to be written in full.

Length: This will depend on how well you can summarise. You don't need to get every bit of detail but simply the points which answer your questions well enough for us to understand your interviewee. Results will be shared with the class and compared to the results obtained by others.

Skills tested:

• Listening skills - how well you reflect back what is said, thereby showing respect.
• Tone of voice
• Questions asked
• Summary of most important points.
