With regards to homosexuality,
students 'offer' different reactions. Some are very tolerant of
all that is represented by homosexuality, others make a
distinction between the person and the act and others fail to
make that distinction. Often, TV shows such as Dawson's Creek
distort this difference. The following de-mythologises
homosexuality so that a more mature discussion can result.
HOMOSEXUALITY
In homosexuality, as
in heterosexuality, one can distinguish between extremes. The
following represents a spectrum.
- The homosexual who feels attracted to the same sex but
does not want to, is celibate and seeks to change his
lifestyle.
- The homosexual who struggles to change but falls from
time to time with the one person
- The homosexual who struggles to change but falls from
time to time with more than one person
- The homosexual who has rationalised his behaviour, is
sexually active with the same person but does not
encourage this behaviour in others
- The homosexual who has rationalised his behaviour, is
sexually active with more than one person but keeps it
private, does not encourage this behaviour
- The homosexual who is happy with his situation, is
promiscuous, and doesnt concern himself with the
consequences of his actions
- The homosexual who is happy with his situation, is
promiscuous, and knows that he may be infecting other
people
- The homosexual who not only loves his lifestyle but
wants to promote it through literature, education of
children etc.
- The homosexual who not only loves his lifestyle and
promotes it but is then openly public about his views
- The homosexual who is actively promoting it through
the dissemination of information but also by
participating in gay marches
- The homosexual who is actively promoting it through
the dissemination of information but also by
participating in gay marches, not just marching in it but
indecently exposing himself regardless of who is present
- The homosexual who parades indecently and mocks
Religion by dressing up as nuns etc., blaspheming God and
the Church directly
- Is there a difference between accepting homosexuality
and accepting homosexual people?
- What is the difference between the ACTIONS of person 1
and the ACTIONS of person 12?
- How does the Church ask us to treat homosexual people?
- Does living in a tolerant society mean tolerating
everything? What do we not tolerate in our society? Why?
- Should we tolerate everything about homosexuality?
- Homosexuals are often seen as victims. In which way
can homosexuals be victims?
- When homosexual people participate in a Mardi Gras or
promoting a homosexual lifestyle, are they showing that
they are fighting victimisation or are they now
victimising? If so, who is being harmed?
