YEAR 11/12 COMMUNITY SERVICE 1999

Beginning in Term 2, all Year 11 and 12 students will have the opportunity to do some community service on a fortnightly basis, during Period 2 on Tuesday. We will be having a trial run next Tuesday (week 8) to evaluate each form of community service with your input. To ensure that you are placed in the group most suited to your talents, we ask that you spend a few minutes now ranking each of the groups described below, in order of preference: that is, you would place a 1 in the group you would most like to join and so on. If we cannot give you your first preference, we would like to offer you your second.

This year, we are offering the following Community service opportunities.

  1. Nursing Home Visitationthe title says it all. If you elect to be part of this group you will visit Mandurah Nursing Home and offer the residents the opportunity to enrich your own life and to be enriched by you.
  2. Arts and Crafts GroupFor the artistic. The work done in this group is very vast and includes making items to sell in the St. Vincent de Paul shop for those on a low income, designing materials to be used in school liturgies, making blankets for the St. Vincent de Paul winter appeal and so on.
  3. Network Action GroupA social justice group dealing with issues and information addressed by World Vision and Amnesty International. Apart for the work you do to help those who are victims of social injustice through letter writing, campaigns, Internet research and so on, you will also hear a variety of speakers and watch videos dealing with the relevant topics.
  4. Drama Groupstudents in this group will be responsible for creating and performing plays and skits which reflect themes covered in the Religious Education Units. These plays will be performed to the wider Year 11 and 12 group at appropriate times. If you like acting and would like to teach your peers at the same time, then this group is for you.
  5. Faith and Life GroupIf you would like to learn more about our Catholic Faith, via Internet and other research, share some quiet time in prayer with some of your friends or even visit the Parish Church, then this group is for you. There is also some opportunity for people to prepare dramatised Gospels for Mass, if this is desired.
  6. Environmental ActionWhilst the dynamics of this group have yet to be formalised, it is envisaged that this will be a practical activity in or outside of school premises. More information will be forthcoming regarding this group.

PLEASE PLACE A NUMBER FROM 1 – 4 NEXT TO YOUR FIRST FOUR PREFERENCES ONLY.
