Back to my Religious Education Resources - What Jesus revealed to St. Faustina about the Holy Eucharist - Main Index

What my Year 8 students thought on the video "Miracles of the Eucharist".

Distributed in Australia by LUMEN 2000: St. Peter's Books and Tapes, 1032A North Rd East Bentleigh 3165.

The blurb on the back of the video cover states, " This video shows some of the extra-ordinary miracles which have taken place over the centuries, which after scientific investigation, substantiate this claim by the Church. A number of places are visited, including Lanciano and Siena in Italy, where the sacred species has been preserved."

The following may be downloaded and used with your students after they watch the video. I asked them to give me their reaction, and explain whether or not they thought the mainstream media should show it.

  1. "I have seen a lot of films like that, with miracles and stuff but I didn't really believe it, but this video I believed for it actually had proof.... It amazed me. It made me understand the Eucharist easier for it explained what it was. The miracles about how the host turned into flesh was strange. I think the eucharist is truly Jesus and if Catholics continue to eat this eucharist God and Jesus will continually be with us to help and guide us throughout our lives. We should all behave maturely in Mass especially in church for it is the house of God."
  2. "When I first saw the Eucharist miracles I felt God was really real. I thought it was good and want to see them happen... It helped me to see God really takes this very seriously...As christians I believe we don;t need signs of anything to prove Jesus is real. We should already believe and trust in Him. In a way the miracles we have seen are important. The media should show this video. It might show people christianity is true and bring them to Jesus. The media doesn't want to prove that Jesus is true and died for our sins."
  3. "When I first saw the video I thought it would be boring and not very interesting but at the end it was very interesting. It made me see the Eucharist from a different perspective...... In mass now I will try to pay attention more and give a lot more respect to Holy Communion. If all the miracles are true it helps us more to understand that God shows his love through mysterious and wonderful ways. It also shows us that the host and the wine are the body and blood of Jesus and that makes it easier to understand the Church. The miracles I have seen are very important and if the media did show the wider community it would help skeptis understand and the people who feel lonely feel comforted. "
  4. "I was so surprised about the miracle how the hosts got stolen and then returned so they decided to let them desintegrate. But even today they still haven't. That miracle made me think, think about the Eucharist and what it really is. That it can actually be turned into human flesh and blood. That was the other miracle. I like how the priest doubted his faith so the Eucharist was turned into actual flesh and blood."
  5. "I think that you should receive the Eucharist as if it was the thing you have been waiting for, for your whole life. With respect and reverence."
  6. "If science can't explain the miracles we obviously aren't good at science or we don;t understand God."
  7. "I thought it was interesting to see things like host's turn into flesh and wine change into blood and tha fact that some hosts didn't go rotten after 250 years. It helps me to believe that there is a God and he makes miracles and helps the less fortunate... The Eucharist is important to me because I get closer to God when .... attending Mass."
