ST. PETER'S SQUARE OUTSIDE THE BASILICA

Please take a look at my New Photo Gallery of Rome

 Top Left.

This wall surrounds the Vatican and is one that I saw as I was heading towards the Sistine Chapel - an unbelievable masterpiece which has been recently restored.

Middle Left.

As you can see, beautiful weather greeted us when we arrived in Rome. Unfortunately, scaffolding prevented me getting a better picture of St. Peter's Basilica. Here I wasn't too far from where Pope John Paul the Second was shot on May 13, 1981. It was after that attack that he began travelling in what has become known as the Popemobile.

Bottom Left.

An undershot of the entrance to the Basilica. You can imagine the awe I felt at such a grand edifice.

In this set, we have two tourists outside the Basilica, another view of the front, the fountain in the Piazza and a list of Popes buried in the Vatican from the first Pope, St. Peter, to John Paul the First.
