SORROWFUL MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY - MEDITATIONS

First Sorrowful Mystery - The Agony in the Garden

Dear Jesus, in the garden, You were so afraid that You perspired tears of blood. You saw all the sufferings that You would need to endure for our sake. Even when an angel came to comfort You, You were without consolation as all would abandon you. The knowledge that Your Blessed Mother was sharing Your Passion in spirit only caused you more suffering. As we reflect on this Jesus, we ask You to pour Your grace on all people living in fear - fear of rejection, fear of violence and fear of themselves and their future. Please fill them with Your peace and all the gifts of Your Holy Spirit, and heal their wounded hearts

Second Sorrowful Mystery - The Scourging at the Pillar

Dear Jesus, taking turns, the Roman soldiers scourged You, insulted You and showed You no mercy. You were scourged so much that Your Sacred Body became one large wound. Reflecting on what You went through for love of us, we ask you to pour Your Grace on all people who have forgotten that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Fill them with Your purity and lead us all to sanctity.

Third Sorrowful Mystery - Jesus is crowned with thorns

Dear Lord Jesus, you are truly a King, deserving a beautiful crown. Yet, to mock You, the soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Your Sacred Head, with some throns piercing Your skull. We cannot imagine the anguish this caused You. We can only thank You for the love You showed us and ask You to have mercy on all those who abuse the intelligence you have given them. Lord, bless our doctors, writers, teachers, politicians, and indeed all of us, that we may use our intellect to help bring Your Kingdom and truth to the world. Particularly Lord, convert the hearts of those who seek to use their intellect to destroy the innocence of youth and the sanctity of the Church.

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery - Jesus carries His Cross

Lord, with almost no strength left at all, You were forced to carry Your cross to Calvary. You fell many times but each time You got up and continued even though You were treated with cruelty by those You came to save. We reflect on the suffering you experienced when Your eyes met those of Your Mother, her heart pierced by a sword as she witnessed what was being done to her child.

Lord as we meditate on Your Way of the Cross, pour Your Grace on all people who have fallen prey to an addiction to drugs, immoral behaviour, hatred or anything which has destroyed their freedom to live as a child of God. Each time they fall, and despair, give them the strength to keep fighting the battle. For the sake of Your sorrowful passion, heal their wounded soul and spirit. Let them know how much You love them.

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery - Jesus is crucified and dies in agony

Dear Jesus, with no pity whatsoever, the soldiers stretched our Your arms and legs on the cross and nailed Your Sacred Hands and Feet. Each strike shattered Your whole body. We cannot even begin to imagine what You went through for love of us.

To St. Faustina one day, You spoke of one group of people that brought You comfort in Your sufferings.

"Bring to me the meek and humble souls of little children, and immerse them in My Mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly angels....I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. I favour humble souls with My confidence.

Lord please help us all to be humble and loving like little children. Heal children throughout the world who are victims of abuse and rejection, especially at the hands of those who should love them the most.
