OUR CLASSROOM RIGHTS, RULES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONSEQUENCES

 These were created in conjunction with my students to some extent. It is only one approach which may be useful for a beginning teacher.

    OUR CLASSROOM RULES INFRINGEMENT OF RULE

    1. ALL MEMBERS OF THE CLASS ARE TO BE TREATED WITH CONSIDERATION AND RESPECT
    2. YOU MAY MOVE AROUND THE ROOM AFTER GAINING PERMISSION TO DO SO
    3. TAKE CARE OF ALL SCHOOL PROPERTY AND LET ALONE THE PROPERTY OF OTHERS AT ALL TIMES
    4. LISTEN WHEN OTHER PEOPLE IN THE CLASS ARE ANSWERING/ASKING QUESTIONS EITHER IN THE GROUP OR WHOLE CLASS SITUATION
    5. LISTEN TO THE TEACHER AND TO TEACHER DIRECTION AT ALL TIMES TO AVOID DISRUPTION AND CONFUSION
    6. RAISE YOUR HAND WHEN YOU WISH TO SPEAK UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED
    7. ONLY A FAIR AMOUNT OF WORK IS TO BE GIVEN WITH AMPLE TIME TO COMPLETE IT
    8. ALL ARE TO BE TREATED AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED
    9. MAKE LEARNING FUN
    10. ANY DISCIPLINE IS TO BE CARRIED OUT FAIRLY
    bullying, rudeness, racist comments, put downs

    walking out of class, disturbing others, walking without permission

    stealing, vandalism, swinging on chairs, spit balls , chewing gum

    interrupting, shouting out answer, playing the clown , " goofing off ", talking to the person next to you,

    talking while teacher is talking, not obeying teacher request,

    talking despite no noise signal

    speaking out of turn

    on the spot assessments, too much homework, not enough time

    not thinking about others before you act

    not participating, using same strategies all the time

    not listening to students, judging out of anger rather than patience

    Note Well : If I have to speak with you in class FOR BEHAVIOUR , you will begin to accrue demerit points.

    Normally, you will receive 1 for behaving badly in one period. If your behaviour is particularly bad and you have already had to be isolated , it may mean 2 points automatically. The accruement of 3 misbehaviour demerit points means extra homework which must be completed and then signed by your parents . After that, continued misbehaviour will mean detention - lunch or otherwise and continued isolation / contract. The same system applies to AREAS OTHER THAN BEHAVIOUR . You are able to accrue demerit points for each of the following :

     

    1. failing to bring texts to class 2) not completing homework

    3) not maintaining file in an orderly fashion 3)coming late to class

     

    WE THE UNDERSIGNED, AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING

     

     

    1. _____________ WILL BE GIVEN POINTS FOR EACH PERIOD SPENT ABIDING BY CLASSROOM RULES AND WORKING UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF HIS/HER ISOLATION

     

    1. _____________WILL BE GIVEN 5 POINTS FOR EACH 40 MINUTES SPENT WITHOUT DISRUPTING THE CLASS

     

    1. _____________WILL LOSE 5 POINTS EACH TIME HE/SHE DOES NOT UPHOLD THE CONDITIONS OF HIS/HER ISOLATION

     

    1. WHEN _____________ HAS EARNED 20 POINTS HE/SHE MAY SIT IN THE USUAL PLACE WITH HIS/HER FRIENDS.
