In the fall of 1964, Bishop Henry Thornes was led of the Lord to begin his Pastoral Ministry. It was at that time that Elder and Mother Thornes agreed to go forth and do a greater work for the Lord. Upon hearing of Elder Thornes' mission, four of his closest friends prayerfully went forth to help him establish a place of worship. Thus, 3208 was purchased and Elder Henry Thornes became the organizer and Pastor of the congregation known as the Charity Community Church of God. He was elevated to the office of Bishop in July 1995. Though many of the original organizers have gone to be with the Lord, the vision that Bishop Thornes had lives on through his son and the people of God. In November 1993, Bishop passed the mantle of leadership to his son, Dr. James H. Thornes. He continues to work as diligently as his father before him. The word of God says that HE (GOD) is not willing that any should perish. Charity considers this a mandate to reach every single person in our community with the GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. Each (man, woman, boy, and girl) must then choose which path he or she will take. The Word admonishes all of us to "choose you this day whom you will serve .". While we truly praise God for all who have joined with us through the years, we know that our work is not finished. More important to us than membership is discipleship. Today, we welcome you as members of the surrounding community. We thank you for giving us this opportunity to share our ministry with you. |
