Reverend Joseph Mark Hayden graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. He also studied at Holy Cross College (Catholic University), Washington, D.C., and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. He holds degrees in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest in 1948 and served forty-three years in the Camden Diocese before retirement. He now assists in many parishes in the Diocese of Orlando.
He was a Priest Moderator for Engaged Encounter from 1974 to 1990 and has done extended counseling with married couples. He is now also a presenter for Retrouvaille, which is a program for couples with troubled marriages. Father Hayden has been President of the Atlantic County and Gloucester County Mental Health Associations in New Jersey and served on the New Jersey State Board. His many articles have been published in the CATHOLIC STAR HERALD, MARRIAGE & FAMILY LIVING, CATHOLIC GOLDEN AGE, CELEBRATION, THE PRIEST, and many other magazines and newspapers. His form of the Ministry to the Newly Married, under the title of "Marriage...Our First Career," has been inaugurated in many dioceses of the United States and Canada as well as thirteen foreign countries.
