St. Bridget of Sweden

St. Bridget

St. Bridget was born in Sweden in 1303. She married to Prince Ulfo of Nercia and gave birth to 8 children, including Saint Catherine of Sweden, for whom she was a devoted mother.

After her husband's death she continued to live in the world but devoted herself to the ascetic life as a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She then founded a religious order, named the Order of the Most Holy Savior or Bridgettines, and journeying to Rome for the sake of penance, became a model of great virtue to all. She also wrote many works in which she related her mystical experiences. St. Bridget died in Rome in 1373. She is the patroness of Sweden.
