St. Thomas the Apostle is remembered for his refusal to believe that Christ had risen until he had touched the wounds of His hands and side. When the risen Lord confronted him, his disbelief gave way to belief and he proclaimed the Easter faith of the Church "My Lord and my God!"
Nothing certain is known of his life except for the evidence in the Gospels. (He plays an important role in St. John's Gospel - John 11:16; John 14:5; John 20:25)After the resurrection he went out evangelizing, and there is evidence that Saint Thomas evangelized parts of Persia and India. His symbol is the builder's square, from an ancient story that Saint Thomas Built a palace for King Guduphara in India. Thomas is the patron of architects.
